OPINET COLUMN
Many must remember the marches that occurred in Spain in 1997, to protest the murder committed by ETA-de Miguel Angel Blanco Garrido, a councilman from a small town in Vizcaya. In Colombia, hundreds of councilors have been killed in the last 20 years without even a headline on the front page, much less, without becoming grievances or change at least the nation's future. A Luis Carlos Galan, a collusion between mafia and politics, was assassinated on a Friday and next Sunday the whole country was devoted to the soccer game selection Colombia in Barranquilla, in search of Italy's World Cup qualifying. We have lived
anesthetized. At present generations of Colombians have touched us just a time of violence and misrule intertwined with short periods of apparent tranquility. Arguably usual, but we did callus in the soul before some facts and realities that elsewhere would be disruptive, so we said, "and we incriminated" to be indifferent. However, it could also be said that this attitude has been a defense mechanism that has enabled us to pursue a normal life while Pablo Escobar unleashed the strongest wave of terrorism in cities like Medellin and Bogota, people continued their routine activities almost without variation, working, studying, having fun.
We often use another defense mechanism even more cruel: if you kidnap someone blames for having a lot of money if you kill another, 'who knows what mess was walking' or 'no one sent him to mess with these people' ... and well. That is, to survive despite the fear, to distrust and uneasiness is not paralyze us, to intimidate us not so much misfortune, we attribute blame the victims and believe that the thing is not with us or with our families, because "you do not he's involved in strange things 'or is attractive prey for criminals because, we say' you have nothing."
Perhaps if we had long understood that reflection is attributed to Bertolt Brecht, the true author is Martin Niemoeller, which says "First they came for the Communists ..." maybe we would have saved much misery and could have formed a more egalitarian and just society at this time would take us light years ahead in development and, above all, peace, that calm that exists in many countries although there is some degree of poverty and exclusion. So far you've come this collective trance-box, this lethargy, this numbness of our people that surveys are repeated as the happiest people in the world, as people more happy and satisfied, perhaps because it produces the known live among so much violence and survive the day without a scratch, despite the bombs in the city, of kidnapping in the road, the slaughter in the village, the shooting in the neighborhood.
However, these mechanisms can not be permanent in the mind of the individual. One day we had to get tired and we are increasingly those who do not support the option indifference to those who do not attend to the nature of the social pact, which is not an alternative or an option to take or leave at will, much less a tie framing a tyranny when there is a growing democracy deeper. So there is no room for indifference to the violence but also to the state that dares to default on their primary duties, both to protect citizens and to improve the living conditions of all.
The march of February 4, against the FARC, against kidnapping, "to be caused by citizens' initiative, is the seed of awakening of Colombians, the end of the indifference and the beginning of a period of increased participation public demonstrations and not biased to be substantive lead to a state of peace and prosperity that Colombians have not met but we deserve and that will come when we understand that our welfare is the responsibility of each and every one of us.
And with these marches, each is responsible, with their assistance, their own rejection of violence. Because not enough with a repudiation understatement but it's time to speak up before they come to us, for each one, and it is too late. 3301940916609711
